I had no idea these were worth that much.

Same, seems expensive for something from the mid '90's.

Meh... or just buy one in much better condition with its transmission on Ebay here for half the price??

Seems like an awful lot of money for just an engine that is presumably (at least mostly) stock.
No idea these were worth that much. I'll stick to cheaper horsepower.

It's not... They are barely worth half that... No idea about the market in the philippines though.

Being from the mid-90s has nothing to do with it. Companies will continue to buy up 2JZ-GTE motors for the next 25 years, regardless of how old they get. This is not an ordinary motor, both mechanically and economically.

That comes out of an Aristo. That is why its half the price. If you want a stock engine swap that matches the frame exactly, you want it out of a Supra.

You don't buy a 2JZ because you want a $2000 motor that makes 276 HP.
You buy a 2JZ because you want a $12,000 motor that makes 800HP.

But that initial investment of $2000 was suprising to me.

It comes out of a supra, which gives it a premium over all other 2JZ-GTEs. It's literally the most desirable one.
You can pick up a junkyard 302 out of an old pickup for $300, but if you want an original, unmolested 302 out of a 1969 Mustang, expect to pay top dollar, even if the engines are almost identical and about the same power output. Same with the 2JZ.

That makes sense for originality's sake.
I not a stickler about whether the engine stamp is correct when it is built up to make good power.
I'd be more concerned about getting the most performance for my money; especially if I dump several grand into a motor.

what is the difference other than mounts? Hasn't an aristo been quite a bit less beaten than a Supra in its life?

Originality. It's the same reason why a numbers-matching 302 from a 1969 mustang costs oodles more than a 302 out of an F-150.
Supras are collector cars now, remember that.

Meh, comparing 302 '69 Mustang to Supras is a bit of a stretch... You can get TwinTurbos Mark 4 Supras for less than 10K$ in Japan...

Supra RZ-S with weird (removable) body for 7000$... Collector is a bit of a strech...
